Laser Marking in Electronics Industry

Electrical products usually bear various labels and markings, they are required for good usability and contain type- and security information, serial numbers and traceability codes. Solid state and CO2 lasers will produce durable laser markings on commonly used materials even on the smallest areas. For instance, a perfectly legible 2D matrix code will fit within an area of less than 1 mm x 1 mm.

Laser marking of polymers relies on carbonization or foaming processes caused by laser beam absorption. For backlit parts the laser selectively removes specific lacquer layers from multilayer-coated transparent bodies.

For metal housings annealing is used in most cases. Annealing produces durable laser markings with perfect surface quality without adding any undesirable substance.
